A baby’s first birthday is probably the most memorable birthday out of all their for the parents of the new baby.  This is a birthday where the baby won’t remember, but the parents always will.  Usually the parents invite their friends and family to join in the festivities of the baby’s first birthday.  Naturally, you’ll want to include the baby in as many activities at the party as possible, just keep in mind how short the baby’s attention span is at this age.  He or she may not be willing to do many of the activities you have planned. 

Try to keep the time of the baby’s first birthday party short to accommodate the baby’s feelings and even let him or her have a nap during the party if necessary. He may not be as excited about the 1st birthday ideas you have planned as you are. Remember to take lots of pictures and set up a video camera to catch all the excitement.  The most important thing you can do to make the baby’s first birthday party a success is to have fun!

The birthday ideas we are going to tell you about are aimed more towards the adults and older child.  Even though the ideas are meant to be played by older siblings and the adults invited, the baby shouldn’t be left out of the fun. They will enjoy the fact that everyone is there having fun and sharing in their birthday fun.  However the rest of the party, including the food served and the birthday decoration should be geared for the baby.  Babies may have a hard time eating the foods that adults would rather have and may even have a hard time digesting a cake made for an older person.

It is a good idea to have an angel food cake made separate so the baby can have a cake all to themselves and a bigger cake to serve your guests.  Nothing makes a baby feel more special on their 1st birthday than having a cake all to themselves.  More than likely there has been no other time in the baby’s life where they can really dig into a cake that was made just for them.
